Archive for August 5th, 2007

OK, today was a bit of a tough one – not only is it the last day of our vacation (*sniff*) but it rained all day, spoiling our plans to spend the afternoon playing in our new little pool. Plus Sunday is laundry day – oh so fun.

August 5’s happiness: Finding out that that the brother of one Big Brother 8 cast member/son of another and the brother of yet another cast member are posting on a fan board that I read once in a while. Big Brothere has been my guilty summer pleasure since the first season in 2000. I skimmed the threads and it made for an entertaining naptime (Little Sister’s, not mine).

Big Brother, Tim and I made our annual trek to Michigan’s Adventure amusement park on Friday. This is the fifth time we’ve been there (went twice the first year). It really is a nice family park – perfect for families with smallish kids. Not so huge that we can’t go from one end of the park to the other pretty quickly, not so crowded that the lines take forever, etc. Big Brother just loves it. (It’s probably great for families with bigger kids too – I wouldn’t have a problem letting a couple of 12-year-olds off on their own for a while – but we just haven’t hit that point yet!)

We had an excellent time, of course – perfect weather, not too crowded, etc. And of course BB was fearless – he’ll ride on anything he’s tall enough to be allowed on. That includes going in the front car of the roller coasters and the end (scariest!) seat of the Sea Dragon. Here are some pictures from our visit.

On the Drummer Boy. This is the only ride I refuse to join them on. The “drums” are on a huge circular platform that rotates, and each individual drum can be rotated even more by turning the steering wheel thingie in the center. Tim and BB LOVE to make it go as fast as they can – the one time I rode it, I really thought I was going to throw up.

Check out the look of glee on BB’s face as they get crashed into.

The Snoopy characters are the park’s mascots.

Trying his hand at a game of strength. He was thrilled to win a little Daffy Duck toy (we didn’t mention that everyone who played got one).

Riding the ostrich on the carousel. It has some pretty cool animals – ostrich, sea dragon, lion, bear, etc . – so we rode it several times.

On the train (which, to be honest, is not very exciting – it basically goes through a vacant, overgrown part of the property that’s not particularly pleasant for sightseeing).

Just before BB temporarily forbade me from taking more pictures.

Now that he can actually read the map, he took great pleasure in planning our next activity.

Man on a mission!

Decisions, decisions! We gave him $5 to spend and he immediately said “Can I spend it in the candy store??” We said yes, of course, forgetting HOW LONG it would take him to pick out $5 worth of “penny” (more like quarter or dollar) candy. He had quite the bagful when he left.

Time to head home! (Please note that my hair had not been tended to in any way since 6:30 a.m.! I don’t think it looked too bad considering all the rides we went on.)

The Gal Herself tagged me for the Middle Name Meme.

1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.

2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.

3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts.

4. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

My middle name factoids:

L = Lazy. Yes, I’m a hard worker and will do a good job (especially when I’ve committed to doing something for someone else, i.e. my job) but basically I’m lazy at heart. But aren’t a lot of us?

E = Everything. What I like to read! A little bit of everything. (OK, maybe not EVERYthing, but lots of different things.)

E = Excitable. I can get pretty worked up when I’m passionate about something, or see something that really makes me mad, etc.

Now for the tag. What three lucky bloggers shall I choose?
