Shocking, isn’t it? They showed us that video at my Child Passenger Safety Technician course this summer, and we just sat there in stunned silence when it was done.
The moral of the story is: Unrestrained passengers don’t risk only their own safety; in a crash, they can be lethal to even the most safely buckled person.
(Note: It IS considered safe to ride on buses, where all passengers are obviously unrestrained. Buses have built-in protection called “compartmentalization,” which I will be happy to explain if anyone is interested.)
