This first-grader brought two loaded guns to school. Both guns were loaded and had a bullet in the chamber. According to another news article I read (on Time.com?), one of the guns was a 9mm handgun. He brought the guns to school in his backpack and later had at least one of them in his pocket.
This scares the crap out of me because no matter how well I raise MY child, how much attention I pay to him, etc., there’s nothing I could do to prevent something like this from happening in his classroom.
This also illustrates why I never, ever let Book Boy play with toy guns. He makes “guns” out of Legos – fine. Uses a stick as a gun – fine. But I NEVER want him to make the judgment as to whether a gun is real or toy. (And he knows that, too – I’ve drilled it into his head often enough that he’s never to touch any sort of gun regardless of whether he thinks it’s a toy or not, and he understands why.)
