We are oan vacation until next Monday. We’re planning a trip to Iowa for Thursday-Sunday and a trip to the Toledo Zoo on Wednesday, but other than that our days are pretty free and lazy.
Today was a wonderful summer day, for several reasons. Here are some of the ingredients that went into this great day:
Sleeping in! Tim and I were able to sleep (well, doze, at least) past 9:00 while the kids played downstairs.
An impromptu trip to the park. The kids and I were playing in the backyard, and they were both bugging me to push them on the swings. It’s impossible to push them both at the same time, since the swings are on opposite sides of the swingset. Plus Book Boy’s feet kept dragging on the ground when I pushed him. So I said let’s go, we’re going to to the park! We spent about an hour and a half there and the kids had a blast.
Ice cream. Because of our usual meal/naptime/bedtime schedule, there’s never a good time to go get ice cream that doesn’t interfere with the kids’ sleeping schedule or ruin their lunch/dinner. So today we decided we’d just go to Dairy Queen after Little Sister’s late nap and if no one was hungry when dinnertime rolled around, that was just fine! We all had “dipped” cones, and boy did BB make a mess! He had an ice cream beard and mustache.
Car wash. After we returned from our ice cream trip, BB and I washed both cars. It was fun and we both ended up wet. Especially BB, because when I reminded him that tonight was bath night, he complained. I jokingly said OK, then let me give you a shower out here with the hose! He agreed, and took his shirt and shoes off so that I could give him a good shower.
Movie night. Around 9:05, Tim and I intended to get the kids ready for bed. (Late for LS, but we’re on vacation!) BB complained that he wanted to watch Holes, which Mimi had bought for him at a garage sale yesterday. At first, I told him that he had no screen time left but that he could read. Then I immediately said “Hey, we’re on vacation, right? Go down and get the movie!” (We were upstairs in my bedroom.) LS wanted to watch too, so the kids and I settled into bed while Tim made popcorn for us. BB and I enjoyed the movie and though LS didn’t pay much attention, she was being silly and quite entertaining for me.
Tomorrow probably won’t be as much fun because we’ve got a bit of a “to do” list – laundry, hair cuts for the kids, cut the grass, clean the inside of both cars, switch car seats around (me, obviously), etc.
