Book Boy got his first allowance on Saturday. It’s only $2, but he was very excited (he had requested $1).
About five minutes after he got his first allowance, we heard the tune of the ice cream truck. BB looked at us as if to say “Can I?” We told him it was his allowance to spend. He immediately grabbed the money and raced to the front porch. Sadly, the ice cream truck was speeding down the street and was already too far away for us to catch him.
Sunday night – same thing. We heard the music of the ice cream truck, but it was gone by the time we raced to the front door. BB and I sat on the porch for 20 minutes in hopes that it would return, him with his bills clutched in his hand, but again to no avail.
Today, when I picked BB and Little Sister up from child care, the first thing he said to me was “Did LS tell you our plan to catch the ice cream truck?” No, she hadn’t. “We’re going to sit on the porch until it comes. We’re even going to eat dinner out there!”
BB even intended to buy LS a treat with his money (he had another dollar too). I assured him that she would be perfectly happy with a popsicle from our freezer, but he said “Mom! She’s my sister! I want to buy her a treat!”
A fine plan, if you ask me. Tim and I agreed to let them sit out on the porch and even eat their dinner out there. They stayed outside until it was pretty much time to get ready for bed.
And that darn ice cream truck? Never came tonight. Maybe tomorrow, I guess.
