If you follow the “blogosphere” or even just the news at all, you’ve probably heard that Bristol Palin is five months pregnant. She just happens to be the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is running for vice president on the Republican ticket.
The general reponse from conservative corners? It’s wonderful that she’s being so supportive of her daughter. This just shows that she and her family are human. It really emphasizes her family values.
But what if Bristol Palin wasn’t the public eye? What if her mother wasn’t running for vice president? If this happened to someone at their church, or to a girl at their daughter’s school, what would these same people be saying?
“Well, if she had stayed home with her kids instead of working all these years, this wouldn’t have happened. What a shame.”
(Keep in mind that I’m not saying that is the RIGHT reaction, just the realistic reaction that I would expect.)
(Oh, and on a related note – I find it impossible to believe that John McCain knew about this before selecting Palin as his running mate.)
