In case you’re wondering why I haven’t blogged much recently, I’ve been busy making Little Sister’s Halloween costume. She’s going to be a fairy. The costume requires lots of fabric. Like, 18 yards of costume netting. (And may I say that this is the most annoying fabric I’ve ever worked with, except possibly the gold lame I used with the Harry Potter costumes a decade ago. Maybe.)
Anyway, the skirt portion of the costume involves sewing together yard-long pieces of the netting, then layering and gathering that and sewing a waistband onto the whole thing. Somehow, when I sewed the waistband on some of the gathering (which I had already sewn over so that it would stay gathered) loosened up. And so the skirt now has a waistband that would probably fit a grown woman (a skinny one, though). I’m not interested in re-doing any of it (the seam ripper is my mortal enemy), so I guess I’ll have to scrounge up some pins on Halloween.
Oh well. At least she’ll be able to keep it in her “dress-up box” for a long time. Like, until she gets married.
