We drove home from Florida late last week, leaving at 5 a.m. on Friday. Book Boy had his Nintendo DS, a couple of books, and some small toys to keep himself occupied. Realistically, I figured he’d want to play his Nintendo as much as the battery would allow, and that was OK with me.
However, by 12:30, he had only played for about 15 minutes, opting to snooze for a while and then read (and finish) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for most of the morning instead. He continued to read for much of the day.
It started getting dark around 5:30 and by 7, it was definitely too dark to read. I saw out of the corner of my eye that he had the Nintendo out, and commented on it to Tim.
“Actually,” Tim said. “He’s reading.”
Me: “??? It’s too dark to read.”
Tim: “He’s using the screen of his Nintendo to light up his book.”
Ha ha! That’s my boy! (We’ve got to get him a flashlight for next time, though.)
