Book Boy finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yesterday. So that means that he’s read the entire Harry Potter series, including the Tales of Beedle the Bard (which he’s read twice).
But I have mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, I’m obviously proud that he’s such a good reader, and excited that he’s such a willing reader.
On the other hand, he’s 7.5 and has read the most popular kids’ series ever, in its entirety. What does he read now? Of course, he’d got plenty of things to read (including #1 of the Redwall series, though he doesn’t seem interested in it right now), so it’s not as though he needs me to push him to anything. On the other hand, I want to make sure he keeps reading at least some books at the higher level.
But what to suggest? At this age, I don’t want to push just anything on him. While I’m sure he could actually read just about anything that he may be interested in – and I really don’t intend to censor what he reads – at this age, I don’t want him reading anything with content that’s way beyond him (I’m mainly thinking language or “adult situations”).
Any suggestions? What did your advanced reader like (and “get”) at this age?
