You may have noticed that I haven’t been a very good blogger lately. In order to get back into the groove, I’ve decided to make this “book week.” I’ll recommend a new book each day.
Today’s recommendation actually comes from Book Boy. Now, he tears through books SOOOO quickly that I really don’t buy him very many – I prefer to stick with the library, which is free and close, or the hundreds thousands of books that we already have in the house (still free, and even closer!).
But there is one series that I don’t mind buying him, even in hardcover: Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He read the first one about a year ago, quickly following it with the second one, which had just come out.
Book #3 just came out a couple of weeks ago. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw is, according to BB, just as funny as the others. I read the first two and loved them, so I hope he’s right. (He hasn’t “let” me read this one yet.)
Here are his comments on the books:
“Any kid age six and up should read these books. Lots of funny things happen to the main character. Some are good, some are bad. (P.S. Most are bad.)”
I think the fact that he has read this book twice since he got it last Sunday, and has read the other two books again in the past few days, says it all.
I have seen this book at the book store. I will keep in mind for young readers whom I know. It is great that your son enjoys reading. Reading increases vocabulary and it sparks the imagination. He will do so well because he enjoys reading. Great idea doing the review.
I have seen this being recommended in a few places now. I plan on getting all three of them for Bart in time for the half-term holidays coming up.
Always good to be able to buy one’s self a present yet act like the oh so generous father 🙂 I might just let him Talk me into reading them too 😀
These looks cute. Maybe I’ll pick them up for the Kid. Anything to get her away from Junie B.
My nephew (age 9) LOOOOVES this series. He’s been known to sit quietly reading them, and then all of a sudden bust out laughing aloud. For Valentine’s Day I got him a Border’s giftcard so he can buy this latest one.
cant wait to see tomorrows recommendation 🙂
Too funny. Ashley just came in here and told me that she wanted Diary of A Wimpy Kid – Rodrick Rules for her book club order. Made me think of you again tonight 🙂
