Just for fun, here are some cool web sites that I enjoy visiting every once in a while. (When I do visit them, I usually catach up on everything that’s new since the last time I visited.) If you take a look at any of these, let me know how you like them!
Candyblog – If you like candy, any kind of candy – expensive fine candies, Hershey candies, novelty candy – you’ll enjoy this blog, which has been revewing sweets since 2005. “Meticulously photographed and documented reviews of candy from around the world. And the occasional other sweet adventures. Open your mouth, expand your mind.”
Cake Wrecks – “When professional cakes go horribly, hilariously wrong.” It’s simply amazing how bad some of these cakes are – makes me feel very lucky that the few bakery cakes I’ve purchased have been relatively presentable. And don’t miss the weekly Sunday Sweets feature, which actually includes cakes like these beautiful classic board games.
Mental Floss – As the name implies, this blog is a little more mentally stimulating than the others, with about ten new articles each day on a wide variety of topics. Check out the daily Lunchtime Quizzes “What’s That Base Line?,” “Baseball Brainteasers,” and “The Archaic Unit of Measurement Quiz.”
Hollywood Stock Exchange – “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” Too bad this one isn’t real money – I’ve been playing the HSX for more than eight years, and have a virtual net worth of $322 million!
Celebrity Baby Blog – Total brain candy, but fun. Also pretty respectful of the celebrities and their kids, compared to other celebrity gossip sites. And of course, they ran that terrific series on car seat safety last spring.
Crass-Pollination: An ER Blog – Nurse K describes herself this way: “Fine purveyor of: High-quality urban emergency nursing care, primary care, drug-seeker support services, physician handwriting interpretation, arrangement of rapid ambulance transfers to detox, bus tokens and cab vouchers, Stage 4 malignant cynicism, and concierge service. Everything I say here is written on my home computer on my own time. If you can’t tell, I think my job totally rules despite all its quirks. ”
What are your favorite fun blogs? Where do you go when you just need a little entertainment for your brain?
