Yesterday, I was just finishing lunch preparations, when the doorbell rang. I could see that there was a nicely dressed woman on the porch, someone I didn’t recognize. We rarely – as in almost never – get legitimate drop-in visitors, so I figured it was a solicitor of some sort. Tim answered the door, quickly said “We’re not interested,” and shut the door.
“Jehovah’s Witness?” I asked.
“Yep,” he said. “She had a bible in one hand and a copy of the Watchtower in the other.” So he didn’t even need to wait for her to begin her spiel.
Seriously, though, are these folks ever successful in their door-to-door recruiting/converting/whatever they call it? Tim and I are not particularly religious (I’m a lapsed Catholic, he wasn’t really raised in any particular religion), but even if we were looking for a new religion, we certainly wouldn’t get it from a door-to-door salesman. Does anyone ever have a reaction to their solicitation other than just trying to get rid of them as quickly as possible?
Disclaimer: I have no particular beef with the religion itself. I’m simply tired of being solicited by them for my entire adult life. If I want to know more about their religion – or any religion – I’ll ask, or research it myself.
