August 13: Today’s happiness is a simple one – having generous neighbors with over-producing tomato plants! Yesterday Book Boy and Little Sister were playing in the backyard. BB ran into the kitchen and told me “Barb wants to know if we could use some tomatoes.” I told him to tell her that we can always use tomatoes (she knows we love them anyway, from past summers), and he returned a few minutes later with about eight orange tomatoes – tangerine tomatoes, I think. I was skeptical, because I prefer my tomatoes red and traditional, but the kids and I sliced one to have with our lunch yesterday. Mmm-mmm, they tasted at least as good as the delicious red tomatoes we’d gotten from the Corn Stand earlier in the week.
Tim, LS and I had a plate of “rainbow tomatoes” as LS called them (one red, one orange) with our dinner tonight, and they were just delicious. I love fresh tomatoes in the summer. (I am, however, extremely glad that Barb doesn’t grow zucchini in her garden.)
