My friend Gal over at One Gal’s Musings reminded me that today starts the annual “August Happiness Challenge.” Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
My happiness today is our new neighbor! My dad’s side of the family has always been pretty close, and that includes me, my siblings, and our cousins. So I was pretty happy when my cousin Karla (who is just 9 months older than I am) bought a house around the block. We’ve seen her a few times, but she’s been pretty busy unpacking.
Well, my folks came over for lunch today. We alternate places – we went to their place last weekend – so this was the first time they’d been at our house since Karla moved in. As I was preparing lunch, Tim and Book Boy were telling them about the house, etc. when all of a sudden Tim said, “Book Boy! Run over to Karla’s house and see if she wants to have lunch with us!” Well, BB had been begging – BEGGING – me to let him go over to Karla’s by himself all week, so he practically ran over there. He was a back quickly, alone, so we figured she wasn’t home. Nope, “She’ll be over in a half hour,” BB said.
So Karla came to our house, we had a great lunch (grilled burgers and corn on the cob, mmm!), and it was a lovely afternoon.
(And, adding to the happiness, Tim was nice enough to run over and mow Karla’s lawn as a surprise while she went to the hardware store!)
Corn on the cob even makes Book Baby happy!
Forget Your Troubles! C’mon, Get Happy!
Here’s a brief explanation of the Challenge: “Each day in August you are to post about something that makes *you* happy. Pretty simple. And, it doesn’t even have to be every day if you don’t want it to be. It’s a great way to remind ourselves that there are positive things going on in our lives, our communities, and the world.”
If you play along, let me know.
