Simple pleasures. That’s today’s “happiness.”
Book Boy was supposed to be going to day camp for two weeks in August but (oops) I waited too long to send in the registration, and every single week was filled. He was kind of upset about it, but I promised him we’d do a few fun things those weeks, since we wouldn’t be spending the money on camp.
Yesterday, I had the idea to take the kids for ice cream. I gave them the choice of going to Dairy Queen, or going to the grocery store and buying some ice cream treats, ice cream, whipped cream, etc. (all on sale, cheap). They wholeheartedly chose the grocery store. After some deliberation, we came home armed with ice cream sandwiches, ice cream toffee bars (my choice), fudge bars, three types of ice cream, whipped cream, and mini M&Ms for topping. (We already had Hershey’s syrup, of course, because my kids are chocolate milk addicts.) So far, the kids have had an ice cream sandwich, a sundae, and a root beer float. They get so excited, you’d think they had died and gone to heaven.
